Flying Insect Killers/Catchers

Flying Insect Killers & Catchers

Electronic fly catchers and killers are very popular as a final line of defence in a non chemical approach to flying insect control.

Fly Killers

Traditional fly killers work upon the principal of providing a lure, in the form of light, to attract flying insects. The flying insects are killed when they come into contact with an electrified grid producing a familiar “zap” sound.

Traditional fly killers are becoming less popular in the food industry. The “zap” sound is disconcerting in public circulation areas but more importantly the body of the flying insect can be defragmented when it comes into contact with the electrified grid.

This can result in microscopic debris of the flying insect carcase being thrown into the atmosphere surrounding the electronic fly killer, with body parts coming to rest in or around food and food preparation areas.

Where catch tray analysis is provided as part of a contracted service to our clients where electronic fly killers are employed it is common for our technicians to be carrying out flying insect identification of just body parts as apposed to the whole carcass, limiting the true picture of flying insect activity to be determined.

Fly Catchers

Electronic fly catchers use a light lure but they employ a sticky pad to trap flying insects rather than zapping them on an electrified grid.

There are many types of unit available and our service technicians can advise on the most suitable unit for your application. The result is a silent, attractive unit that is deployable in retail areas as well as well as in commercial food preparation and processing areas.

The most obvious benefit with flying insect catchers is that, unlike electrified grid flying insect killers, defragmented body parts are not sprayed into the atmosphere surrounding the unit. The potential for these fragmented body parts to end up in the production line or product are eliminated, good reason why these machines are so often being specified within the food industry.
