Pillar & Lucy, Gloucester

Project Description

The Project: A £400m development of the Gloucester Quays area including the refurbishment of Pillar & Lucy House, an 1834 brick built warehouse. Protectahome were asked to waterproof the canal side vaulted basements as part of the refurbishment.
Pillar & Lucy House is a Grade II Listed Building set within the Gloucester Quays development in the historic City of Gloucester. Part of a huge £400m redevelopment scheme, Gloucester Quays occupies 25 hectares of industrial land on the canal corridor. Pillar & Lucy House, a former warehouse, is located next to the canal and required a robust Basement Waterproofing installation to provide Dry Habitable Accommodation for Commercial use.
Protectahome were engaged to Design and Install a Quality Basement Waterproofing System that would meet the specific site requirements and comply with the developers program of work. A drained protection Cavity Drain Membrane method of Waterproofing was selected for use, giving particular consideration to the impact on the structure and the reversibility of the process. A combination of 8mm and 20mm Cavity Drain Membranes were applied to walls and floors. The installation, utilising products from Newton Membranes, was supported with a series of Perimeter Drainage Channels linked back to specially formed Sump Chambers. Each Sump Chamber contains two high capacity Sump Pumps controlled by a sophisticated electronic panel with battery back up. The panel allows for sequential pumping, duty assist, burst testing and detailed monitoring of the pumps. It also incorporates an audible High Water Alarm as well as a Speech and Text dialler. Protectahome’s own directly employed staff completed the work which benefits from our long term Guarantee. The design is covered by our Professional Indemnity Insurance.
