Project Description

The Project: Developed by an award winning designer, construction of 15 individually designed luxury 4 & 5 bed homes set within 4 acres of woodland in Nottingham. Due to the topography of the site, almost all of the properties featured a semi-basement that required waterproofing.
Developed by an award winning property designer, Alexandra Park in North Nottingham was built to offer 15 luxury properties within a gated community in North Nottingham.

Each strikingly designed, substantial property is unique and the prestigious development on heavily sloped former woodland offers a surprising level of seclusion for a city location.

The topography of the site resulted in almost all of the properties featuring a semi (partially earth retaining) basement of varying depths (one or two storeys partially below ground) which would require specialist waterproofing to protect against water from the ground.

Due to the company’s reputation in providing bespoke new build waterproofing solutions, Protectahome were approached to provide a detailed professional design & installation service  that would meet with Premier Guarantee’s technical manual requirements and the applicable code of practice, BS8102:2009.

Given that part of the construction was already underway, a series of site visits were undertaken to determine the best form of waterproofing.  Protectahome’s CSSW qualified surveyor designed a combined system of waterproofing utilising a Type B (Integral) protection structural slab with Type A (Barrier) protection applied to the walls externally and Type C (Drained) protection installed internally.

The Type A system took the form of a combination bonded sheet membranes, detailing being completed with reinforced liquid based compositions. The Type A system was also supported by the inclusion of a maintainable land drain.

Internally, Protectahome installed the Type C system that incorporated the use of 8mm stud Cavity Drain Membranes fitted to earth retaining sections and adjoining floor areas of the construction.

To the wall/floor junctions within the same areas, perimeter drainage channels were installed in order to safely direct any captured free water from behind the membranes to a safe point of disposal.

Due to the heavily sloping site, the perimeter drainage channels were able to discharge passively via gravity fed drainage away from the properties and into mains drainage.

In addition, service/maintenance ports were fitted at strategic locations to the perimeter drainage channel in order to effectively monitor and maintain the system during its lifespan.

All works were completed on time, and within budget, by Protectahome’s own specialist operatives and the guaranteed system received full approval from Premier Guarantee.
