Protectahome Continue Support of Rett’s Awareness

Protectahome are proud to continue our support of Rett’s Awareness during October by raising funds for Rett UK Charity.

Rett Syndrome is a severe, lifelong neurological disorder that affects approximately 1 in 12,000 baby girls each year. Suffers of Rett Syndrome have profound and multiple physical and communication disabilities and are totally reliant on others for support throughout their lives.

This is our second year of supporting Rett’s Awareness Month after the charity was introduced to us by our Contract Controller, Claire. Claire’s niece, Abigail, who is 5 suffers from the disorder and is completely dependent on her parents and family for support 24/7.

Abigail is unable to stand on her own so she needs to use a specialist standing frame. Abigail cannot talk and she cannot purposefully use her hands. Abigail also has epilepsy which is controlled with medication. Every day is a struggle as Abigail needs 24/7 care. But despite all this Abigail is a happy little girl that can light up the room with her smile.

Rett UK offers professional advice and support for families affected by Rett Syndrome, including Abigail and Claire’s family whom we have come to know here at Protectahome. Throughout the last month, we have held regular dress down days at our head office to raise funds for the charity.
