How NOT to Install a Remedial Damp Proof Course

How NOT to Install a Remedial Damp Proof Course

As damp proofing specialists, over the course of our 35 years trading, we have come across countless jobs where incorrect installation has been attempted by a non-specialist contractor or a contractor claiming to be a damp proofing specialist. The result of this is inevitably a botched job which causes more cost, of both time and money to the home or business owner as well as potential damage to the property, through the lack of protection from the poor quality of work.

The latest of example of this comes from our Cardiff office, where our specialist surveyor had to be called in to review an ineffective remedial Damp Proof Course.

By not removing the plaster or the skirting board, the non-specialist contractor has drilled blind into the structure therefore not guaranteeing that they have injected into anything. Also, the plaster contains ground salt as a result of Rising Damp, until this is removed and replaced it is highly unlikely that any improvement will be seen.

In short, this was a waste of money and will not deal with the problem.

Moral of the Story: Get a damp proofing specialist with a proven track record to diagnose and specify the correct treatment, saving you both time and money in the long run.
