  • Damp Proofing Birmingham

Project Description

The Project: To provide a guaranteed solution to rising dampness at ground floor level within this terraced West Midlands property.
This 2 bedroom, brick built terraced property of approximately 80 years of age, was suffering from rising damp to the right hand elevation at ground floor level.

Following an internet search, Protectahome were contacted by the property owner via the company website and a survey arranged with Protectahome’s local CSRT* qualified damp surveyor.

After a detailed inspection of the property and the possible causes of the apparent dampness, a lack of physical damp proof membrane was identified and a scheme of remedial damp proofing was specified to prevent further rising dampness via capillary movement.

Protectahome were instructed by the homeowner to undertake both the damp proofing and associated building works, ensuring no split liability and to allow the whole contract to be managed by one internal team.

Protectahome’s specially trained operatives, hacked off wall plaster in the affected area to a pre-specified height and 12mm holes were drilled into the mortar joints between the first and second brick courses and where necessary for a vertical barrier.

Following this, a pure cream emulsion based chemical damp proof course was injected into the mortar joints, the choice of product enabling superior penetration into the building material.

The area was then re-plastered including the use of a specialist rendering additive to protect the new plaster, and prevent hygroscopic salts from affecting the wall surface.

The works were completed on time, within budget and Protectahome’s long term guarantee was issued upon completion.

The homeowner commented on the professionalism of the service, how pleased they were with the efficiency, tidiness and quality of Protectahome’s work and that they would not hesitate to use the company again.
