The Cost of a Leaking Roof

The Cost of a Leaking Roof

Recently we were asked to carry out a survey of a domestic residence where the client reported that their bedroom floor had partially collapsed. Our surveyor found on investigation that the cause of the collapse was in fact an attack by the true Dry Rot fungus. Protectahome have since been contracted to deal with this attack, including all necessary exposure work, Dry Rot treatment and reinstatement.

Dry Rot

This work will include for replacement wall and ceiling plaster, decorative plaster cornice, skirting board and dado replacement and extensive timber repairs to floor and ceiling joists. One of the many benefits of using an established, reputable company like Protectahome is being able to single source a complete solution for complicated problems like this. Unfortunately for our customer this work will cost several thousand pounds and it could all have been avoidable if a leaking roof detail had been spotted early on and dealt with at a cost of several hundred pounds.

It is essential that any attack of wood rotting fungi is correctly identified by a qualified professional and that prompt action is taken to deal with the moisture source responsible for the attack, along with the promotion of rapid drying of the structure.
