Clyne Castle is a picturesque Grade II listed building overlooking Swansea Bay. The castle, originally built in 1791, had many notorious guests including Winston Churchill and Queen Victoria. In later years Clyne Castle was bought by Swansea University, who occupied the building for many years as Student Halls of Residence. The building was later sold and refurbished into luxury one and two bedroom apartments. During refurbishment stage Protectahome was asked to inspect the property and provide a specification and cost for any wood worm treatment that may be required.
Having conducted a detailed survey of accessible structural roofing and flooring timbers, Protectahome’s surveyor noted evidence of infestation by the Common Furniture Beetle (anobium punctatum). Typical small holes (flight holes) were present in the surface of the timbers as was bore dust (frass) which was deposited directly beneath and around the flight hole. Mindful of the listed status of the building a specification of remedial woodworm treatment was prepared by our surveyor for the clients approval. Protectahome’s directly employed technicians treated all accessible roof timbers including rafters, purlins, ceiling joists and other structural timbers. All accessible floorboards and supporting floor joists throughout this level were also treated using an insecticidal wood preservative. Protectahome were praised for the competency of the team involved. All work was completed on time, within budget and to the highest of standards.
